May 16, 2008, Newsletter Issue #117: Create a Hiking Checklist, or Forget a Vital Piece of Hiking Equipment at Home!
1
Tip of the Week
Sierra Trading Post Tip: 'Let's see, where did I put that packet of waterproof matches?' If this sounds like you the last time you hit the hiking trail, then a hiking checklist should be an indispensable part of your hiking equipment.
You can create your own hiking checklist on your computer and then print it out whenever you plan a day on the trail. Or, you can locate many prepared hiking checklists online. Whatever method you choose to create your hiking checklist, you should make a point to go over it before you leave for your hike.
Even if you think you have all your hiking equipment gathered together and ready to go, you won't know what you've forgotten until you need it in the middle of nowhere, and that's no way to find out you forgot to bring along the compass! If you make a checklist and go over it the night before you leave for your hike, you'll make sure you have all the hiking equipment you need to make your day in the woods safe and secure.
